Much of what we eat, by the time it gets to us, has had all the important vitamins and minerals stripped out of it. That is because of poor handling and poor manufacturing practices. We’re being cheated out of the benefits these foods provide in their natural states. We may also be robbing ourselves of the wholesomeness of the food we eat because of how we prepare or cook it. Otherwise, we could get everything we need from all the food available on earth.

This is why herbal supplements are so important. If we could unplug from the mass media commercialism for just a second and really look at what we eat and what it’s doing to us, many of us would change out diets on the spot. Some of us have already done that. Other of us will live and die by a fat juicy, greasy dripping cheeseburger. It’s bad enough that there are other problems associated with the diet of most Americans (which is an entirely different blog post). But, amazingly enough, there are natural supplements that can even help to counteract some of the bad things we eat.

Case and Point: Take that fat greasy dripping cheeseburger I mentioned above. It is most certainly loaded with cholesterol. But, assuming you don’t eat it everyday, red rice yeast or garlic can have a significant impact in lowering cholesterol your body collects from foods like that. By the way, we’re talking about “bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Good cholesterol or high- density lipoprotein (LDL) is the type of cholesterol your body actually needs. One reason why HDL is good for you is that it seems to protect against heart attacks. There are tons of examples like this to illustrate the numerous benefits of natural supplements.

So, why should herbal supplements be included in your diet? In short – because your body needs them in order to be healthy – period. That should make it simple enough.
