The Mighty Thyroid Gland

I never thought about my thyroid (gland) until I ran across some information on the subject online while researching ways to deal with fatigue. Was I exercising too much? Perhaps it was my diet. I came across information on the thyroid gland and its function. I didn’t realize the importance of this relatively small gland and the huge role it plays in regulating body functions.

As I was surfing, I got a brief flashback to the only other time I had ever heard about this gland. A former co-worker of mine had problems with her thyroid. At the time, I still didn’t understand what a thyroid was. She mentioned to me how she had trouble controlling her weight even though she wasn’t overeating. She always seemed to be distressed also though, looking back, I have to say she kept in great spirits considering her condition. Only after recently reading about the thyroid online had I become more conscious of it. Did I have a thyroid condition? I became a bit anxious but I kept reading.

I made an appointment to see my doctor and she determined after blood tests that my cholesterol levels were a bit elevated. She offered me on of two ways to deal with controlling my cholesterol: I could either take a prescribed medication or make changes to my diet. I opted to make dietary changes since I needed to eat better anyway. I started to feel better after that. I also spent time thinking of the ways I might have put unnecessary stress on myself and made a conscious effort to eliminate those situations.

Fortunately, I had no thyroid problems but its awareness changed everything. I even started looking into natural thyroid supplements to make sure my thyroid gland is functioning well.
