What Are Omega-3's?

Though there are many types of fats that can be consumed not all fats are the same. Some types of food are good for the diet while other types of fat like saturated fat and trans fat can clog the arteries and are harmful to your health. Saturated fats that are found in many junk foods, dairy products and meats are a major contributor to high cholesterol. Unsaturated fats are healthier to consume and can be found in olive oil and fish, to name a couple. These fats are actually very healthy to consume and there are ways to add more healthy unsaturated fats to the diet by consuming natural Omega-3 supplements.

Omega-3

Omega-3 supplements contain three different types of unsaturated fats. EPA, ALA, and DHA are the three unsaturated fats that are combined together in Omega-3's. These unsaturated fats have actually been shown to work in the opposite way that saturated fats do in the body. While saturated fats raise cholesterol and raise blood pressure omega-3 fatty acids reduce blood pressure and lower the heart rate. People with high cholesterol can benefit from reducing the amount of saturated fat in their diets and replacing it with taking Omega-3 supplements. Even people that do not have problems with high cholesterol can benefit from taking the supplements. Recent findings have shown that adding Omega-3 fatty acid supplements to the diet can be a very healthful addition.

Omega-3's are almost like a super supplement that do not just benefit one part of the body but bring health and balance to the immune system and to the brain. Omega-3's are a great contributor to the overall health and well being of the body. Taking them daily is a very effective and natural way to support the mentality and the functioning of the body. People with poor circulation will benefit from the increased blood circulation that Omega-3's provide. Omega-3's are also known to prevent certain types of cancer.

People who have problems with depression and/or anxiety can benefit from the healthy boost that Omega-3's deliver because they have been shown to lift the symptoms of depression and brighten the attitude. Taking these supplements daily in conjunction with a proper diet can really improve the way the brain functions by enhancing the memory. People in dispair or people having trouble remembering and learning can also benefit from Omega-3s.
