What Is Snoring And Why It Happens

A peaceful and sound sleep at night is what you expect after a busy day in the office, but snoring can deprive you of this very important and essential sleep. Our bodies need to rest to recharge our bodies or health problems can start to appear. It is important to understand why we snore so we can better address the issue and stop snoring naturally.

Some reasons people may snore include nasal problems, your mouth structure, obesity, illnesses, certain medications and drinking alcohol. Especially if you have symptoms like daytime sleepiness, high blood pressure and breathlessness at night, it can cause you serous complications like sleep apnea, heart problems etc.

Snoring is just like other sounds formed by vibrations in our nose, which create sound waves in the air particle. When we fall asleep, turbulent airflow leads to the vibration of nose and throat resulting in snoring.

During the course of normal breathing, air can flow smoothly in a steady stream from our nose and mouth to the lungs. While sitting and breathing quietly you can feel little noise. But when you are asleep, the back of the throat portion narrows sometimes. The opening gets smaller and as the same amount of air passes through, it causes surrounding tissues to vibrate. The obstruction may be in mouth and nose too.

Sleeping position also leads to snoring problems. When you lie down on your back, gravity acts to pull the palate, tonsils, and tongue backwards. This also narrows the passageways, causing turbulence and results in soft tissue vibration.
