Natural health products are available to help an individual's joint health. Two very popular supplements that are available are glucosamine and chondroitin. Neither one of these have any known side effects, which cannot be said about prescription drugs. Furthermore, glucosamine and chondroitin can be found in juices, which are available in flavors that everyone will like. They can also be taken as a supplemental pill, which will not wear off in 4 - 8 hours like many prescription drugs.

Prescription drugs can also be taken to improve joint health. Two different types of prescription drugs are pain killers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Unfortunately, both of these have side effects. The side effects of pain killers are drowsiness and addiction. The side effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are stomach problems, such as ulcers and heart and blood vessel problems. With these side effects comes a time limit on how long an individual can take the pain killer or the anti-inflammatory. However, an individual can take glucosamine and chondroitin indefinitely because there are no side effects.

Whether an individual chooses to take glucosamine and chondroitin or prescription drugs like pain killers or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it is important for them to keep their weight off and to engage in good nutritional habits. Therefore, an individual should avoid fatty foods and eat more fruits and vegetables and foods with calcium and vitamin D. You should also exercise to improve joint health by walking 20 - 30 minutes a day. This will not only benefit the joints, but it will also keep the weight off and improve heart health.
