Hair Removal - Is There An Herbal Remedy?

Approximately 80% of women and 50% of men have unwanted hair growing in different parts of their body. The majority of this hair growth is caused by genetics; however, there are some cases of abnormal hair growth caused by other factors such as testosterone treatments, steroid hormones, medications, and the removal of the sex glands.

Hair Removal for Women

Hair Removal For Women

For many decades, women have been removing unwanted hair on their body, with the use of different techniques. Not only does this add to the woman's beauty but it is better for her personal hygiene as well. Women, on the other hand, typically want to have unwanted facial hair removed this includes the hair on the upper lip and the chin. Women also want their eyebrows groomed as well as the hair on the neck, bikini line, breasts, abdomen, forearms, underarms, and legs removed.

Hair Removal for Men

Hair removal for men has also gained equal importance and have become an equally big industry with more and more men of all ages and backgrounds coming ahead to do away with their extraneous fuzz. Most male athletes, especially those involved in swimming and cycling, have their hair removed to minimize resistance and increase their speed.

Men generally want their eyebrows groomed; they also want hair removed from the outside area of their ears and shoulders.

Pubic hair removal is popular among men and women of both the modern Western and traditional societies such as Hindu and Islam.

Methods of Hair Removal

Temporary hair removal can be achieved through depilation (removing part of the hair above the skin's surface). This method can last several hours to several days. Another method is epilation (removing the entire hair). This method can last several days to several weeks.

Permanent hair removal involves the use of chemicals, energy of varying types, or a combination to target the areas that regulate hair growth. To permanently destroy these areas while sparing surrounding tissue is a difficult challenge.

There is a third alternative - an herbal remedy for hair removal called Herbal hair inhibitors.

An herbal inhibitor is a product that claims to reduce the growth of the body hair significantly. However, no published clinical data is available that can back up the claims of these products leading to slow down or eliminate hair growth. Yet, herbal hair inhibitors are available in most retail outlets and some of them may even need a prescription for buying and using. The present success of some prescription oral medications has led to the explosion of these non-prescription products, particularly seen on the internet and television infomercials.

So is there something to it? And, how do they work? How long before hair begins to grow back? Just because there is no published clinical data is available to back up the claims of these products should we automatically assume it’s a hoax.

Read on as we discuss herbal hair inhibitors in this link.
