Which Boil Treatment Works Best?

Common Boil Questions

Where are boils most likely to appear?

There are no particular areas on the body that are immune to the formation of boils. They can appear on any part of the skin and without notice. Historically, they tend to show up on the inner thigh, underarms, buttocks, neck, face or where there is constant friction. Boils that end up on the face are not only painful but unsightly and not as easy to conceal. At times, boils can develop in clusters.

Boil On Face

There does not need to be a pre-existing health condition before one develops a boil problem. However, if you have a suppressed immune system or existing skin problems you are most likely at a higher risk. One thing we can all do is pay attention to proper hygiene.

What causes boils to appear?

Boils can develop because of an ingrown hair, a splinter or other bacteria that has found its way beneath the surface of the skin. When sweat glands become clogged, infection may ensue. If this occurs it creates a greater risk of developing a boil problem.

Boil On Finger

It is important to note the role the skin plays in our immune system in the fight against foreign materials or bacteria entering the body. Even a small break in the skin in the form of a scrape or tiny cut could increase the odds of a boil formation if it becomes infected.

Who is most at risk to develop a boil?

Though it is possible for anyone to develop a boil, people with pre-existing medical conditions that affect the immune system are more at risk. Some examples would include person diagnosed with diabetes or kidney ailments.
